Chapter 9.
Thomas's demon!
Thomas was looking out onto Oxford street from the executive suite of the hotel. It was two thirty in the morning and he had just taken a cocaine hit. His eyes were seeing the world in the most vivid colours and his brain glowed with a buzzing noise so soft, it felt like his whole body was cotton wool, and everything had just had the hard edges rubbed away. It was a sensation that made him feel like nothing else ever had. When he tried to explain it to Joshua, he thought his twin brother would understand and not go crazy at him for trying the drug. It seemed like an age ago now and try as may to resist doing it again, he had been drawn back into its grip it now had on his mind. When they had first come to London, it felt exciting, but then the reality came flooding in. It was nothing like they had imagined. Their parents had been right all along. The world was not the same. It was filled with greed and the haves and the have nots. The first week had been the hardest to swallow. Drugs were everywhere, and people were strange. The daytimes seemed the safest time to be out, but they could not stand the heat of the day and before long hooked up with a gang of men who soon took all their money and began using them. Joshua had tried to warn his brother that they needed to leave, but Thomas believed they were okay. How wrong he was. After that first hit of cocaine. Thomas changed. After killing a man with his powers, the gang they had fallen into bad hands with soon realised Thomas was of more use than just a scavenger, doing their bidding. They seemed overwhelmed that a human could kill a man with his mind, and they soon had Thomas hooked on coke and doing the evillest things to anyone they wanted out of the picture. Drugs, alcohol, and meat had replaced money. These things bought you anything you wanted. Many of the gang members never ate human flesh but were protected from the poverty that existed outside the circle. Joshua's life, and his reluctance to join them was only saved because Thomas had insisted, he lived, or he would no longer perform for them. He was now a cross between a freak and a god to these men, and they had learned to humour him for fear he might kill them. A kind of understanding was formed and if they supplied Thomas with the drug he craved, he would entertain their games. So much time had passed so quickly that Thomas had no idea how long they had been in the capital now. All his waking thoughts were about one thing, the rest was just geography that he had to get through before the next high. At times he worried about his brother. He was being kept locked away in a room that had been sealed up.
